HANOVER, N.H. – Junior
Alessandro Arlotti and sophomore
Ethan Veghte each scored goals inside of the final 15 minutes as Harvard University men's soccer rallied to earn a 2-2 draw at Dartmouth College on Saturday afternoon at Burnham Field in its regular season finale.
In its final match prior to the Ivy League Tournament, the Crimson (5-4-7, 3-1-3 Ivy) found goals in the 77
th and 88
th minutes to come back from a 2-0 deficit after the host Big Green (4-8-3, 2-3-2 Ivy) netted goals in the 53
rd and 60
th minutes.
The Crimson earned the No. 2 seed in the Ivy League Tournament and will face No. 3 seed Yale on the campus of No. 1 seed Penn in the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 10 at 3:00 p.m. (ESPN+).
Arlotti scored his team-high sixth goal of the season, while improving to 2-for-2 on penalty kicks in 2023. Veghte netted his first goal of the year, and junior
Marko Isakovic notched his first assist of the season.
Harvard Highlights
- Junior Alessandro Arlotti scored his team-high sixth goal of the season, increased his team-best point total to 18 points, and improved to 2-for-2 on penalties on the season. In Ivy only play, he led the team in goals (five) and points (13) on the season. For his career, he now has 20 goals and 60 points.
- Sophomore Ethan Veghte netted his first goal of the season and the second goal of his career. He registered his first points of 2023 with his 88th minute equalizer.
- Junior Marko Isakovic tallied his first assist of the season and ninth assist of his career.
- Among the Crimson's field players, junior defender Jan Riecke played the full 90 minutes. Riecke has played in 1,423 of a possible 1,440 minutes on the season.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Lucian Wood made two saves.
- For the match, Harvard led in shots (18-7) and corner kicks (10-3) while both teams tallied four shots on goal.
- The Crimson moved to 9-2-6 in its last 17 Ivy League games.
- Harvard closed the regular season with a 4-1-3 mark in its last eight games and 5-2-5 record in its last 12 contests.
How It Happened
- In the first half, Harvard led in shots (5-3) and corner kicks (3-1). The Crimson's chances in the opening period included first-year Andreas Savva creating an opportunity for junior Alessandro Arlotti in the 29th minute, and sophomore Ethan Veghte driving a header over the crossbar in the 42nd minute off a corner from junior Marko Isakovic.
- The Big Green opened the second half's scoring as Trenton Blake scored off assists from Vasilis Moiras and Tom Collins in the 53rd minute.
- Dartmouth took a 2-0 lead in the 60th minute behind a goal from Moiras with an assist from Blake.
- Harvard countered in the 77th minute. After the Crimson earned a corner, Arlotti stepped to the penalty shot and blasted a shot into the back of the net, converting a penalty for the second time this season.
- The Crimson equalized with just under three minutes remaining. After Isakovic played in a corner kick from the left side, Veghte rose up to drive a header into the goal in the 88th minute.
