PROVIDENCE, R.I – Harvard women's hockey made the short trip down to Providence, R.I. last night, falling to the Brown Bears in a hard-fought contest.
Rose O'Connor netted her first career goal in the action, but it was not enough to lead the Crimson (7-18-3, 6-12-3 ECAC) to the victory over the Bears.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crimson looked sharp in the first few minutes of the game, outshooting the Bears 12-5 after ten minutes of play.
- Harvard's penalty kill team was also preforming well, stopping Brown on its first attempt later in the first period. The Crimson defense did not allow a single shot to reach the net while on the kill.
- Brown was able to find the net late in the first period to take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
- The Crimson penalty kill came up big with another stop to start the second period, this time only allowing one shot to reach Alex Pellicci.
- The Bears snuck another goal past Pellicci 6:12 into the second period and added one more at 11:10 to take a 3-0 lead.
- Rose O'Connor answered for the Crimson late in the second period, firing a shot into the back of the net from the blue line. Her first career goal put the Crimson back into contention as the score read 3-1 at the second break.
- Harvard came out swinging in the third period, putting three shots on goal in the first two minutes of the period before a penalty put it back on the kill.
- The Crimson PK team completed its perfect night with another stop in the third.
- Brown turned aside all eight Crimson shots in the third period, adding an empty net goal to go on and win 4-1.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS
- Rose O'Connor scored her first career goal in the second period
- Mia Biotti and Anne Bloomer assisted on the goal
- Bloomer increased her season point total to 24 with the helper
- Kristin Della Rovere went 17-10 in the faceoff circle
- The Crimson penalty kill went 3-for-3 on the night, allowing only two shots in six minutes on the ice
- Harvard and Brown finished tied with 29 shots on goal apiece.
