PRINCETON, N.J. – Harvard Men's Volleyball won the opening set at Princeton, but could not carry its momentum in the subsequent frames as it fell to the Tigers, 3-1 (26-24, 13-25, 24-26, 19-25), Saturday evening inside Dillon Gymnasium.
With the loss, the Crimson fell to 4-8 overall and 0-4 in the EIVA. The Tigers, meanwhile, moved to 6-8 (2-2 EIVA).
How It Happened
- Despite trailing from the outset, Harvard chipped away and leveled the score at 10 apiece only to have Princeton answer with three straight points. The Tigers held their lead until a 7-1 Harvard spurt moved the visitors ahead, 19-18. The score was tied at 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24 until James Bardin recorded a kill and Princeton was credited with an attack error, giving the Crimson the early lead.
- The second set was tightly contested, with Princeton holding a slight 10-8 edge. Five consecutive points by the Tigers, however, opened the margin and Harvard was unable to recover, falling, 25-13.
- Harvard looked poised to take the third set as it broke open a close frame to take a 15-11 lead. Princeton, once again, went on a 5-0 run to move in front. The teams traded points and found themselves knotted at 24. Princeton, however, was the beneficiary of two Crimson attack errors to capture the set, 26-24.
- In the deciding fourth set, Princeton jumped out to a 7-3 lead, but Harvard would not go down quietly. The Crimson stayed close, getting to within 17-14 and later 20-17, but it could not dig out of its early hole, falling to the Tigers, 25-19.
