New Haven, Conn. - The Harvard women's basketball team (13-7, 6-2 Ivy) started the weekend with a win over the Yale Bulldogs (10-11, 4-4 Ivy), 67-54.
The Crimson won the tip off with Lola Mullaney scoring a layup in the first thirty seconds of play, starting a Crimson lead that would build to five throughout the first quarter. The Bulldogs took more shots from the field but the Crimson proved more accurate throughout the first ten, ending the quarter 14-9.
Harvard took charge in the second quarter, with Elena Rodriguez and McKenzie Forbes helping build a 12 point lead halfway through the quarter. The Crimson held Yale to only 4 points in the entire second quarter, shooting 61.5% over Yale's 14.3% to go into the locker up 33-13.
Forbes and Rodriguez both hit double digits in points early in quarter three, while the Crimson continued their domination by adding seven points to their lead. Harvard stole the ball from Yale three times and scored five points off turnovers to enter the final ten up 50-23.
Despite a surge from Yale in the fourth quarter, Harvard held the lead as Mullaney surpassed 1000 career points in the last quarter of play, ending the game with a 13-point victory, 67-54.
Harvard Highlights
- Mullaney surpassed 1000 career points after making a shot from three in the fourth quarter. She now joins only 21 other players in Harvard history to hit this career milestone. Of her 1005 career points, 573 came from three.
- The Crimson were lead by Rodriguez, shooting 7-for-11 from the floor and 1-for-1 from three to put up 19 points. She led in rebounds as well with nine and assists with five.
- Mullaney and Forbes put up double digits with 15 and 11 points, respectively, each adding two steals as well.
- Harmoni Turner followed closely behind with eight points, seven rebounds and two assists.
- Rodriguez tied her career high three blocks.
- Elle Stauffer posted a career high three steals against the Bulldogs.
- With today's win over the Bulldogs, Harvard has moved to 56-34 over Yale in the all-time series. They have also evened the slate for this season with a 1-1 record against Yale.
- The Crimson are now 6-2 in conference play after winning four conference games in a row and sit tied for second in the league with Princeton.
