CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 67 Harvard women's tennis (7-6) narrowly fell to No. 43 Denver (10-2) 4-3 on Saturday, March 11.
Harvard got off to a fast start in doubles. Harvard's duo,
Sophia Ho and
Maxi Duncan, would defeat Denver's Britt Pursell and Taylor Melville 6-3 in the one spot. In the three spot, Harvard's
Iveta Daujotaite and
Sany Gawande defeated Denver's duo of Louise Wikander and Caroline Driscoll 6-2 to give the doubles point to the Crimson.
Entering singles with a 1-0 lead, the Crimson would receive wins from
Maxi Duncan in the two spot and
Mihaela Marculescu in the six spot. Duncan would defeat Denver's Andrea Burguete Beltran 6-3, 7-5 and Marculescu would defeat Denver's Claudia Martinez de Velasco 6-4, 6-4.
Denver would earn wins in the three, four and five spots, meaning the match in the one position between Denver's No. 65 Taylor Melville and Harvard's No. 82
Charlotte Owensby would decide the team winner. Owensby would win the first set 6-3, but Melville would take sets two and three 7-5, 6-2 to give Denver a 4-3 win.
