SAN DIEGO, CA – No. 7 Harvard Men's Tennis took on San Diego State for the second time in the last four days to open play at the Ed Collins Spring Classic. In a repeat of their last matchup, the Crimson swept the Aztec, 4-0 to move on to the semifinals of the tournament.
The Crimson began the day by securing the doubles point off of wins at the No. 1 and 3 positions.
David Lins and
Alan Yim grabbed the first win of the day for Harvard with relative ease, 6-2. Shortly after,
Daniel Milavsky and
Harris Walker stayed strong in a tight battle against the No. 80 nationally ranked doubles duo to pull out a 7-5 victory and clinch the doubles point.
Moving into singles, Walker picked up his eighth win of the spring, defeating Johannes Seeman (SDSU) in straight sets to put the Crimson up 2-0.
Competing for the first time during the Crimson California trip,
Henry von der Schulenburg put the Crimson a win away from clinching by winning his match at the No. 2 position. After dropping the first set, the junior stormed back, dominating 6-3, 6-1 in the next two sets to claim the win.
Playing at the No. 6 position for the Crimson, Yim grabbed the final and clinching win for the Crimson with a straight set victory over Andre Saleh (SDSU). Yim pulled out a gritty tiebreaker win in the first set, followed by a 6-4 second set to down his opponent and solidify the Harvard win.
Harvard Highlights
- For the second time this week, the duo of Milavsky and Walker defeated the No. 80 nationally ranked duo, Johannes Seeman and Chikaya Sato (SDSU). The pairing is now 3-0 overall, having teamed up for the first time all season this week.
- Lins and Yim nearly mirrored their Monday performance of 6-1, only dropping two games in todays match. The two wins against SDSU are the only two times the duo has teamed up this season.
- Walker continues to dominate this year, improving to 8-2 with his win tonight. Walker's eight singles wins leads all Crimson players for the spring season.
- With his win tonight, von der Schulenburg remains undefeated for the spring. The junior has won all six of his completed matches and sits at 12-3 overall for the 2022-23 campaign.
- The Crimson now hold a double-digit lead in the all-time series with San Diego State, holding a 15-5 lead. Harvard has won the last nine meetings between the two squads.
