Men’s Tennis Sweeps Virginia Tech and BU in Double Header

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 13 Harvard Men's Tennis put on a dominant performance in their first two home matches of the 2023 spring season.  Taking on No. 75 Virginia Tech and Boston University in a double header, the Crimson were perfect on the day, sweeping both opponents.

Down Goes Another Ranked Foe

To open the day, the Crimson swept the No. 75 nationally ranked Virginia Tech Hokies, 4-0, in their first spring match at Beren Tennis Center.

Putting on a show for their home crowd, the Crimson kicked off the day by securing the doubles point off of wins at the No. 2 and 3 positions.  Ronan Jachuck and Steven Sun pulled in their 11th win of the year, defeating Alberto Orso/Scott Sculley (Virginia Tech), 6-3.  Dominating in tiebreakers, Henry von der Schulenburg and Alan Yim won their doubles battle, 7-6 (1), to clinch the doubles point for Harvard.
Moving into singles, recently nationally ranked No. 112 Ronan Jachuck, defeated his opponent at the No. 4 position in straight sets to put the Crimson up 2-0.  No. 20 von der Schulenburg matched Jachcuk 6-4, 7-5 result shortly after to pull Harvard within one win of clinching the match.

At the No. 1 position, No. 30 Harris Walker powered back to take the match in three sets.  After dropping the first set, 2-6, Walker dominated the remainder of the match, winning the second set 6-2 and not dropping a game in the final set.

Battle of Boston

In their second match of the day, the Crimson moved inside to the Murr Tennis Courts to take on fellow Boston area foe, Boston University (BU).  Harvard completed their second sweep of the day, downing BU, 6-0, to improve to 12-4 on the season.

Despite dropping a match at the No. 1 position in doubles play, the Crimson began the day by grabbing the doubles point off of wins from Valdemar Pape and Walker and David Lins and Alan Yim

Moving into singles, the Crimson dominated, winning all five of their completed matches in straight sets.  Pape, Yim, Masato Perera, Marc Ktiri, and David Lins all secured singles wins over Terrier opponents.  Perera, Ktiri, and Lins all picked up their first wins of the 2023 spring season.
