Harvard Men's Volleyball Narrowly Falls to George Mason on Senior Night

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Men's Volleyball narrowly fell in their final match of the regular season against EIVA rival George Mason, 3-1 (15-25, 25-23, 19-25, 23-25) on Saturday afternoon in Malkin Athletic Center.
 

How it Happened 

  • Harvard (9-15; 2-8 EIVA) allowed the first three points of the first set to George Mason (12-14; 4-6 EIVA). The Crimson would keep the set close early, trailing by as little as two. However, the Patriots would pull away and win the first set 25-15.
  • In the second set, the Crimson found themselves down 12-6 early on. However, Harvard would storm back, tying the set at 18-18. The Crimson took their first lead at 21-20 and would not look back, winning the second set 25-23.
  • The third set would begin back and forth, with each team exchanging one-point leads. However, the Patriots would gain a 14-9 edge midway through the set. Despite their best efforts, the Crimson were unable to claw back, dropping the third set to the Patriots 25-19.
  • Trailing 2-1, the Crimson showed a lot of fight in the fourth set. Harvard was on a roll early on, achieving five straight points to go up 8-3. The Patriots would come back, but the Crimson did not disappear. With the match tied at 20-20, the Crimson needed a win to play another set. However, the Crimson's momentum faded towards the end, as the Patriots took the fourth set 25-23, giving the match win to George Mason.
 

Harvard Highlights

  • Azim Raheem had a career day, leading the way for the Crimson with a team high eight kills. Raheem's two service aces, four digs and 11.5 points were all career highs for the sophomore.
  • Senior Will Sorensen also had a career afternoon on senior day, achieving a career high 5 digs. He also tied his career high in assists with 20.
  • Senior Ryan Hong also impressed, achieving six kills in the match.
