Harvard Completes Sweep of Yale with Walk-Off and Shutout Wins

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Harvard Crimson (21-12-1, 12-3 Ivy) completed the sweep of the Yale Bulldogs (15-17, 7-8 Ivy) with a walk-off 5-4 win in game one and a 5-0 shutout in game two on Saturday. The Crimson have now won four Ivy League series.

GAME 1 | Harvard 5, Yale 4

How it Happened

The Crimson were trailing 3-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Harvard's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a one-run single off the bat of senior Trina Hoang.
Yale then rallied to tie the ballgame at 4-4 before Harvard walked it off in the bottom of the seventh on Brianna Jewett's one-out RBI double.

Game Highlights

• Junior Anna Reed (7-6) got the win out of the bullpen for Harvard. The right-hander went 3.2 innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing one walk and striking out four.
• In the batter's box, the Crimson were paced by Madi Mays, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a double and an RBI. Junior Kendall Jean compiled a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Jewett also chipped in for Harvard, putting together one hit in one trip to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.
• Harvard's highest scoring inning was the fourth, when it pushed four runs across.
• The Crimson out-hit the Bulldogs at a 10-8 clip.

GAME 2 | Harvard 5, Yale 0

How it Happened

The Crimson took the lead for good in the second, scoring for the first time in the inning. Megan Welsh put Harvard on the board with a two-out solo home run.
The Crimson then tacked on runs in the third, fifth, and sixth innings, with their biggest output coming in the sixth when they scored two times. Those two runs came across when a single from Allison O'Heany brought home Welsh and senior Kaitlin Lampson.

Game Highlights

• Flynn (6-0) went the distance for Harvard, walking one and striking out four in the shutout. She faced 23 Yale hitters in the game, allowing four ground balls and 13 fly balls while striking out four.
• Offensively, the Crimson were led by senior Megan Welsh, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a home run and an RBI. O'Heany put together a noteworthy performance as well, going 1-for-1 with two RBI.  Allison Heffley also helped out for Harvard, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
• The Crimson had control of the rest of the game after jumping ahead of the Bulldogs 1-0 in the bottom of the second.
• The Crimson out-hit the Bulldogs at a 9-1 clip.
• Harvard went 3-for-8 (.375) with runners in scoring position.

Up Next

The Crimson will play host to Providence on Tuesday, April 18 for a single game at 4 p.m. The game will air on ESPN+.
