Baseball Drops 8-4 Decision to Stonehill in Non-League Home Finale

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Crimson tallied 11 hits, including a home run from senior Hunter Baldwin, but Harvard University baseball dropped an 8-4 decision to Stonehill College in in its non-league home finale on Tuesday afternoon at O'Donnell Field.
 
In the first-ever meeting between the two programs, the Crimson (12-20) took a 4-3 lead into the seventh inning before the visiting Skyhawks (6-25) plated two runs in the seventh and three runs in the ninth to take the decision.
 
Baldwin hit his second home run of the year while sophomore George Cooper, junior Ben Rounds, and senior Logan Bravo each posted two-hit efforts as the Crimson tallied double-figure hits for the 14th time this season.
 
On the mound, Harvard permitted just four earned runs. Sophomore right-hander Cole Cleary threw one scoreless inning, allowing no hits, with no walks and three strikeouts while junior right-hander Porter Jordehim also tossed a scoreless frame.

How It Happened

  • The Crimson got on the board immediately, starting the scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Baldwin put Harvard on the board with a leadoff home run to right center field.
  • The Crimson then plated a run in the bottom of the second. Snopek came across to score the lone run of the inning for Harvard on a sacrifice fly from Cooper, which brought the score to 2-0 in favor of the Crimson.
  • Harvard expanded the lead to 4-0 in the third. The Crimson scored twice, with runs coming across on singles from Colasante and Snopek.
  • Stonehill scored the game's final eight runs with three in the fourth, two in the seventh, and three in the ninth.
