Men's Tennis Earns Share of Ivy League Title for Second Straight Year

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - No. 10 Harvard Men's Tennis claimed at least a share of the Ivy League title today by downing No. 50 Penn, 4-2.

The Crimson began the day by falling in doubles play but bounced back quickly in singles.  

Harris Walker and Ronan Jachuck continued their winning ways from last weekend by defeating their opponents at the No. 1 and 3 positions.  

Walker dominated in his match, cruising to the victory in straight sets.  The senior dropped the least amount of games of any Crimson player, downing his opponent, 6-2, 6-1.  

Jachuck and his opponent traded wins in the first two sets, both winning in 6-3 decisions.  After falling in the second, the junior had a commanding performance in the third, winning 6-1.  

Valdemar Pape got back to winning ways at the No. 6 position.  The first-year dominated in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.  

Playing at the No. 4 position, Daniel Milavsky secured the win for the Crimson.  After winning a close 7-5 first set the sophomore fell 3-6 in the second.  Ultimately, Milavsky downed his opponent 6-3 to give the Crimson their fourth point of the day and clinch the victory.

With the win the Crimson moved to 6-0 in conference play and clinched at least a share of the 2023 Ivy title.  With a win tomorrow the Crimson would finish 7-0 in conference action for back to back seasons. 

Harvard Highlights

  • With the victory the Crimson have secured their second straight Ivy League Championship and their 32nd all-time.
  • The Crimson win in Philadelphia snapped the Quakers 22 home match win streak.  
  • With his win today, Walker moved one step closer to a career milestone.  The senior now sits at 99 career singles wins.  
  • Jachuck is the fifth Crimson player to hit double digit wins this season.  The junior improved to 10-6 for the 2023 spring season with his victory.
  • With the win, the Crimson improve to 83-13 all-time against the Quakers.
