CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Junior
Maddie Barkate had five points (three goals, two assists) and a career high 14 draw controls, and both
Callie Hem (five goals) and
Riley Campbell (four goals, assist) also had five points to lead Harvard Women's Lacrosse (8-5, 4-2 Ivy) to a 19-4 win over Columbia (3-11, 0-6 Ivy) on Senior Day at Jordan Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Harvard got off to a dominant start thanks to a stand out first quarter by Hem (three goals), as the Crimson led 5-0 after the opening 15 minutes.
- First-year Charlotte Hodgson made a great outside in move and fired a shot from just inside the eight-meter into the net at 11:50 to make it 1-0.
- Then Hem scored three straight goals to put Harvard in command of the game. The first came on a cut straight to the cage for a shot from 10 feet out at 10:43 to make it 2-0. A top shelf rip on a free position shot at 2:29 made it 3-0. Hem then added her third of the quarter with 43.7 to play in the frame.
- Barkate set up Campbell's first goal of the day with a great pass out front, beating the quarter buzzer with 0.2 left on the clock to make it 5-0 at the end of the quarter.
- After Columbia scored a woman-up goal early in the second quarter (12:55) it was all Harvard the rest of the half, as the Crimson scored seven unanswered to close out the frame, as part of an 11-0 run in the second and third quarters.
- Campbell scored twice (12:19 and 11:39) in a span of less than a minute, the first coming off a great high low pass from Ilana Kofman and the second on a great individual effort to make it 7-1.
- Kofman would score a goal of her own at 7:21 off a setup from Barkate, which was followed by a great cut by Barkate into the eight-meter for a goal from straightaway at 6:39 to make it 9-1.
- Seconds later, Charley Meier scored from right in front off a setup from Kofman at 6:01.
- Barkate then scored a behind the back goal off a feed from Caroline Mullahy with 1:57 to go in the half to make it 11-1. Hem added her fourth goal of the opening 30 minutes with :19 to go to make it 12-1.
- Harvard still managed four goals in the third quarter with the running clock, as Barkate (14:07), Hodgson (12:15) and Campbell (7:38) extended the lengthy Crimson run. Then senior captain Stephanie Hong scored on a free position shot at 6:25 to make it 16-1.
- Hem notched her team-leading 41st goal of the year at 12:39 of the fourth quarter to make it 17-2.
- Columbia and Harvard traded goals to close out the fourth quarter, with the other two senior captains scoring goals – first Meredith Langmuir (8:13) and then Shea Jenkins (3:21) to round out the scoring.
