CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard University baseball swept an Ivy League doubleheader from Columbia University, 5-2 and 5-4, on Friday afternoon at O'Donnell Field winning an Ivy set for the fifth time in six conference series this season and moving atop the Ivy League standings in the process.
The Crimson (16-21, 12-5 Ivy) took a 4-0 lead on its way to the victory in game one and rallied past the Lions (23-15, 11-6 Ivy) in game two, using two runs in the bottom of the seventh to turn a 4-3 deficit into a 5-4 advantage. Harvard has now won five of its six Ivy League series in 2023.

Officials restructured the weekend's series to begin with Friday's doubleheader due to weather. The set will now conclude with a single game on Saturday, April 29 at 11:00 a.m. (ESPN+).

Callan Fang earned the save, and Harvard topped Columbia in game one, 5-2.
The Crimson never trailed the Lions in the contest, gaining a 4-0 lead through two innings and adding an insurance run in the eighth after the visitors plated two runs in the fifth.
Clark registered double-figure strikeouts for the third time in 2023 while Fang tallied his fourth save of the season – all in Ivy play. Cooper launched his first homer of the season.
Harvard Highlights
- Junior right-hander Chris Clark threw 6.0 innings in the win and start, allowing just two runs – one earned – on five hits and no walks with 10 strikeouts. He tallied double-figure strikeouts for the third time this season and posted seven or more strikeouts for the eighth time in 10 starts this year.
- First-year right-hander Callan Fang earned the save, hurling 2.0 scoreless innings, permitting one hit and one walk with three strikeouts. He posted his fourth save of the season – all in Ivy play. Fang has recorded saves in each of his last three outings after capturing a pair of saves against Brown.
- Senior left-hander Harrison Stovern threw a one-two-three top of the seventh on just six pitches.
- Sophomore George Cooper went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs, and a run scored. He launched his first homer of the year.
- Senior Will Jacobsen finished 2-for-4 with a double.
- Senior Zach Brown and Junior Ben Rounds each registered a hit, an RBI, and a walk.
- First-year Gio Colasante contributed an RBI and a run.
- Junior Peter Messervy notched a double and a run scored.
- Senior Hunter Baldwin added a hit, a run, and a walk.
How It Happened
- The Crimson struck first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. After Messervy led off the inning with a double, Colasante brought him home with a sacrifice fly for the game's first run. Rounds later sent an RBI single to right field to plate Baldwin, capping the frame's scoring.
- Clark struck out the side in the top of the fourth to continue to keep the Lions off the scoreboard.
- Cooper extended the margin to 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth with his two-run home run – his first homer of the season – to left field.
- The Lions trimmed the margin to 4-2 with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth.
- Stovern came out of the bullpen in the top of the seventh and threw a one-two-three frame on just six pitches.
- The Crimson added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single from Brown making the score 5-2.
- Fang tossed a one-two-three top of the ninth to complete the save.

Facing a 4-3 deficit entering the seventh inning, the Crimson scored twice in the bottom of the frame to re-take a lead that it would not relinquish on its way to the doubleheader sweep of the Lions.
Stovern earned the save as he threw a scoreless ninth, Cleary took the win after tossing a scoreless seventh, and Kirkpatrick kept the Crimson within a run with a scoreless eighth.
Bravo went 3-for-3 in the game with two RBIs and a double, Rounds notched a double, an RBI, and a run, and sophomore

How It Happened
- The Crimson took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as an RBI single from Bravo scored Cooper, who led off the inning with a double.
- The Lions took a 2-1 edge with a pair of runs in the top of the third.
- Harvard re-gained a 3-2 advantage in the bottom half of the third. Snopek knotted the game at 2-2 with an RBI single before Messervy gave Harvard back the lead at 3-2 with a sacrifice fly.
- Columbia went back ahead, 4-3, in the top of the sixth behind a two-run homer.
- The hosts countered again with a pair of runs in the last of the seventh, moving ahead 5-4. Rounds tied the game at 4-4 as his double scored Cooper from first. Bravo then gave the Crimson the lead with a sacrifice fly to plate Rounds.
- After Cleary threw a scoreless seventh, Kirkpatrick hurled a scoreless eighth, and Stovern tossed a scoreless ninth to seal the victory.
