CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 67 Harvard women's tennis (10-7, 2-0 Ivy) defeats Yale (8-11, 0-2 Ivy) 4-1 for their third win in a row on Friday, April 7. With today's win, the Crimson is now 7-2 when playing at home this season.
Harvard opened play in doubles in a high intensity matchup.
Sophia Ho and
Maxi Duncan would coast to a 6-2 victory over Yale's Ann Wright Guerry and Chelsea Kung to start things off. In the one spot,
Rachel Arbitman and
Iveta Daujotaite's battle with Yale's Rhea Shrivastava and Vivian Chung was tightly contested. With the dual tied 6-6, but Harvard leading 6-4 in the final set,
Iveta Daujotaite hit the perfect serve, achieving the ace and securing a victory in their doubles match. The win secured the doubles point for the Crimson.
Harvard would carry their momentum from doubles into singles.
Maxi Duncan would earn an impressive 6-3, 6-3 victory over Yale's Rhea Shrivastava to start things off for the Crimson.
Sophia Ho would give Harvard another tally, defeating Yale's Ann Wright Guerry 7-5, 6-4. The first-year,
Charlotte Owensby, would hang on in her singles match and secure victory for the Crimson in a 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 victory over Yale's Chelsea Kung.
Harvard is now 2-0 in Ivy League play this season. Also,
Maxi Duncan's singles victory today was her 10
th singles victory of the spring season which leads the team.
