Men’s Tennis Falls in NCAA Sweet Sixteen, Drops Battle to Georgia

ATHENS, GA – In front of a packed Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of University of Georgia, No. 11 Harvard Men's Tennis battled neck and neck with No. 6 Georgia before falling in a 2-4 decision.

The Crimson began the day by setting the tone in doubles play with a dominant 6-1 win by Henry von der Schulenburg and Alan Yim at the No. 3 position.  Georgia responded with a 6-3 victory at the No. 2 position, leaving a ranked battle at No. 1 to decide the doubles point.

No. 62 Daniel Milavsky and Harris Walker were in a back-and-forth contest with the No. 6 nationally ranked duo of Trent Bryde and Ethan Quinn (Georgia).  Continuously applying pressure to the top-10 pairing, Milavsky and Walker pushed the match to tiebreakers before falling 7-4.

Despite falling behind 1-0 following doubles, the Crimson did not falter as play moved to singles.  Harvard looked poised for a comeback as they took three first sets and forced to other matches to tiebreakers.

von der Schulenburg got the Crimson on the board quickly, dominating No. 19 Philip Henning (Georgia), 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 2 position.

While Georgia responded shortly after with a win at the No. 6 position, Milavsky picked up his second ranked singles win of the season to once again tie the match at 2-2 with three matches outstanding.  The sophomore playing at the No. 3 position defeated No. 113 Trent Bryde (Georgia) in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.

Although staging possible comebacks on No. 4 and 5, the Bulldogs were able to ultimately clinch the victory with wins at the No. 1 and 5 positions.
