BIRMINGHAM, U.K. – The Crimson joined the Yale Bulldogs in their first meet abroad as the Harvard/Yale team faced the University of Birmingham in a dual meet to start their tour in the U.K. Six Harvard athletes were a part of six event wins in Birmingham.
The Harvard/Yale teams both finished behind Birmingham in the dual meet.
Harvard Highlights
• Coming off a win at the European Athletics Team Championships,
Estel Valeanu topped the podium in Birmingham in the discus throw with a throw of 57.87 meters. She has consistently thrown beyond 57 meters throughout the past few weeks. She doubled back with another throwing event win in the shot put, throwing 14.20 meters.

Lance Ward joined a team of Yale athletes to win the 4x100m relay in 41.27. Ward also took second in the men's 100m dash with a time of 10.75.

Joe Ewing crossed the line first in the men's 1500m run, winning with a time of 3:55.99.
•
Alexander Kolesnikoff, the recent second team All-American, fared well on foreign soil as he won the shot put with a throw of 19.48 meters. The next closest competitor was nearly two meters behind.
• Two Harvard athletes joined two from Yale in the men's 4x400m relay as
Max Serrano-Wu and
Gregory Lapit stood atop the podium after contributing to a 3:14.72 to win the final men's event of the meet.

Harvard will travel across the U.K. to Cambridge University, where Harvard and Yale will once again team up to compete in the second installment of the HYOC meet this year. The first meet of 2023 took place at Harvard and ended with Harvard/Yale on top. The meet in Cambridge will take place on Wednesday, June 28.
