Game Recap: Field Hockey |

No. 14 Field Hockey Falls to No. 6 UVA Despite Late Push

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. - No. 14 Harvard field hockey (2-2, 0-0 Ivy) fell to No. 6 UVA despite a late push on Sunday afternoon. In a defense-first game - the Crimson picked up the pressure in the third and fourth quarters but were unable to tie it up. Harvard now sets its sights on the home opener next Friday against Dartmouth.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Both teams came out defensive in the opening minutes after either team was unable to really get anything going offensively.

Harvard got its first corner of the game in the second quarter but was unable to capitalize. The game remained 0-0 throughout the first half despite four second-quarter shots from the Crimson offense. Harvard outshot UVA 5-3 after the first two quarters.

UVA struck first coming out of the half after the Cavaliers were awarded a corner. The shot in traffic was barely able to get through after a tip in front.

Shortly after the Cavaliers goal, the Crimson was able to build some momentum after sustained zone time. Harvard was awarded two corners in the third frame but was unable to find the net after getting blocked.

Avery Donahue had the best opportunity of the game for Harvard after finding a loose ball in traffic that just missed tying the game.

NEXT UP

The Crimson returns home to face its first Ivy League opponent on Friday, Sept.15 as Harvard clashes with Dartmouth at 5:00 p.m. on NESN. To conclude the weekend, Harvard welcomes the Northeastern Huskies to Berylson Field for a Sunday matinee.
