No. 15 Field Hockey Cruises to a 4-0 Win Over Dartmouth

CAMBRIDGE, Mass – No. 15 Harvard Field Hockey (3-2, 1-0 Ivy) cruised to a 4-0 win over its first Ivy League opponent of the season. Harvard scored early against Dartmouth and never looked back as the Crimson came away with a commanding victory thanks in part to a two-goal fourth quarter. Harvard will be back in action on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. against Northeastern.

HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS

Emily Guckian and the Crimson offense got started early with a good chance that the Dartmouth goalkeeper was just able to get a piece of. Kitty Chapple found Guckian in the slot who released a quick shot that just missed the top corner.

It was all Crimson in the first quarter as Harvard controlled the place of the play. Nearly halfway through the first quarter, the Crimson was awarded its first corner of the game. Marie Schaefers converted on the first corner attempt for the Crimson to make it 1-0 Harvard heading into the second quarter.

Kitty Chapple scored less than two minutes into the second quarter on yet another corner attempt for the Crimson but it was taken off the board after review after it was determined the ball hit the curved side of the stick.

Another kicked ball in the circle with 6:00 left in the second quarter led to another corner attempt for Harvard where Bronte-May Brough was looking for her first goal of the season but Dartmouth was able to block her shot not once but twice.

Shortly thereafter Kate Oliver took another corner attempt for Harvard – the third in less than five minutes. The third time was the charm for the Crimson as Kitty Chapple converted a beautiful pass and set up from Emily Guckian for her first career goal.

Right after the Chapple goal. Dartmouth was awarded their second corner of the game but Bronte-May Brough had a huge block to keep the shutout alive heading into the half.

Harvard came out firing in the fourth quarter after both Sage Piekarski and Lucy Leel scored some incredible goals. Both forwards worked their way through the Big Green defense before finishing off some impressive individual efforts. Leel's fourth-quarter tally is her team-leading third goal of the season while Piekarski notched her second goal of the season.
