Women's Volleyball Sweeps Columbia to Start Ivy Play 2-0

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Harvard Women's Volleyball team (9-2, 2-0 Ivy) has started their Ivy campaign 2-0 with a second win on the road at Columbia on Friday night. Harvard won the match in three sets with scores of 25-15, 25-21 and 28-26.
 
Harvard got off to a great start, going up 4-0 in the first set to set the tone for the match. The Crimson put up 11 kills with Ashley Wang hitting .833 in set one, leading Harvard to a 1-0 lead after going on multiple runs that won the set 25-15. The Crimson scored first and held the lead the entire set.

Set two started more evenly across the board, as both teams scored points back and fourth for the first ten. Columbia took their first lead of the match early in the set, even building up a four-point difference at one point but the Crimson did not let them hold it. Harvard tied it back up at 17 and took control from there, winning the set 25-21.

The third set was close all the way through, as Harvard held a narrow lead up to 14, then Columbia took the lead from 15 to 19. Both teams were tied up at 19 and then 21, then pushed the set to extended play. The Crimson finished out the set and won the match after a 28-26 win in set three to sweep the Lions.

Harvard Highlights

  • Katie Vorhies led the team in kills with 13, followed by Wang in double digits with 11.
  • Wang had yet another triple-double for her fifth of the season, making 16 assists and 10 digs in addition to her kills. This is the first of her triple-doubles that only took three sets.
  • Rocky Aguirre was second in assists with 14. Lindsey Zhang was the leader in digs on the night with 11.
  • Hannah Nguyen and Brynne Faltinsky both scored two points off serves with aces. Wang added one as well.
  • Ryleigh Patterson was a leader in blocks, making two solo blocks and five block assists for 4.5 defensive points total. Vorhies also added a solo block.
  • Harvard is now 47-22 all-time against the Lions after today's win.
  • With a 2-0 start under their belt, the Crimson are looking to start the Ivy League season 3-0 for the first time since 2017.

Harvard will travel further into the state of New York for a matchup against Cornell in Ithaca, N.Y. at 5 p.m. on Saturday. The match will be aired on ESPN+.
