PROVIDENCE, RI. –
Casey Severo and
Ryan Healey scored in the third to keep it a one-goal game for most of the third period as Harvard narrowly fell to Brown on Friday evening.
Derek Mullahy made 25 stops in the Ivy matchup but Harvard could not overcome a two-goal first period from Brown. The Crimson will play Yale tomorrow before returning home for the first time since Thanksgiving weekend.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Crimson fell into a first-period hole after Brown converted on two power-play attempts to open the game.
Derek Mullahy made two good stops early in the first after a shot from the top of the circles popped out in front of the senior netminder and he had to make two point-blank stops.
Coming out of the first Intermission, the Crimson power-play was awarded its first and only man advantage of the evening after Brown was called for a trip. After an amazing play to keep the puck in the offensive zone by
Ryan Healey, he found
Joe Miller for another one-timer tally. Miller, who has been hot in recent weeks scored his sixth goal of the season with the power-play marker and added his sixth point in his last five games.
Brown added its third goal of the game late in the second period to skate into the break with another two-goal lead.
Looking to get one back, the Crimson came out flying in the opening minutes of the third.
Michael Callow threw the puck up the wall to
Mason Langenbrunner who fired a shot from the point that was picked up by
Casey Severo for an easy tap-in goal. The exact start the Crimson was looking for, Severo tallied his third goal of the season on the rebound goal.
Despite the third-period push, Brown regained its two-goal lead after a pass from behind the net found a streaking Ryan St. Louis for an easy one-timer goal.
After
Mason Langenbrunner and Matt Stutton were both sent to the box after a partial breakaway battle - The Crimson and Bears played four on four hockey with just under eight minutes to play in the third.
A great blocker save from Mullahy shot up the boards and was picked up by
Ryan Fine who led the Crimson on a three-on-one. The first-year walked into the zone and found
Ryan Healey for another one-timer goal to pull the Crimson within one for the third time of the evening. Healey now has five points in his last five games while
Derek Mullahy picked up his second career assist after the blocker stop sprung the Crimson offense.
Brown hit the empty net with less than a second left to secure the 5-3 win.
