CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A three-goal third period from the Crimson helped jump-start a comeback after falling behind 2-0 early as the Crimson earned a point in an overtime loss on Friday night.
Casey Severo scored for the second straight night to start the third period, but the complete comeback effort fell just short after Union scored in overtime. Harvard takes four of a possible six points this weekend in its return to Bright-Landry.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Harvard fell behind early in the first period after Union scored twice on shots that Mullahy was not able to locate. Being outshot 17-4 in the first period, the Crimson went into the opening period looking for a goal to help kickstart the offense.
None other than
Joe Miller answered for the Crimson early in the second period to pull the Crimson within one. Miller who has goals in back-to-back games for the second time this season, finished off a beautiful play started by
Alex Gaffney on the man advantage.
Down 2-1 entering the third period,
Casey Severo scored under two minutes in for his second goal in as many nights.
Michael Callow found Severo at the hash who picked the far corner for his fourth goal of the season. Callow has been on a tear since the trip out west and has recorded points in five of the last six games.
Union answered right back to retake the lead in the third period after another puck was deflected past Mullahy. Pushing for the equalizer, the third line forced a turnover in the offensive zone and capitalized on the opportunity after
Marek Hejduk scored his first goal since the home opener in November.
The Crimson was awarded a power-play halfway through the third period and wasted no time taking advantage after
Alex Gaffney scored another power-play marker. Gaffney, who has scored four of his five goals on the power-play this season, potted home a shot from
Joe Miller that hit the post.
Union scored in the dying seconds and potted another goal early in the overtime to take the extra point.
