CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's fencing returned to the Malkin Athletic Center for the first time in 2024 with a 16-11 victory against Atlantic Coast Conference foe Duke. Three Harvard fencers posted perfect records against the Blue Devils, as
Lauren Scruggs,
Jessica Zi Jia Guo, and
Zoe Kim all went a perfect 3-0 on Friday night.
Women's foil led all weapons in wins, putting up a 7-2 record against Duke in the dual meet. Scruggs and Guo continued their incredible form, as the pair each tallied three wins in three bouts. A native of Queens, N.Y., Scruggs leads all Harvard fencers in wins this season with 42. In her first collegiate season, Guo holds a 36-1 record.
Kim led the way for women's saber, contributing three wins. Over her three victories, Kim posted a +8 touch-differential. The Basking Ridge, N.J. is 28-5 on the year.
Women's epee went 5-4 against the Blue Devils, as
Emily Vermeule and
Isabella Chin each earned two victories.
With Friday night's victory, Harvard now holds a 13-3 record as a team.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS:
- Three Crimson fencers went a perfect 3-0 against Duke in the dual meet.
- Guo, Kim, and Scruggs all went undefeated.
- To start her Harvard career, Guo is 36-1.
- Scruggs leads the Crimson in wins with 42.
