Men's Hockey Falls to UMass Lowell in Desert Hockey Classic Finale

TEMPE, AZ – Ryan Healey and Cam Johnson added two goals late for the Crimson but Harvard ultimately fell to UMass Lowell in the Desert Hockey Classic finale by a score of 7-4. Falling behind early, the Crimson battled in the second half of the game but was unable to complete the comeback. Harvard returns to ECAC conference play next weekend with another road trip to Brown and Yale.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Crimson fell behind nine minutes into the first period after the Rivers Hawks converted on a shot in the slot for the lead. The River Hawks added another before the first period concluded.

Alex Gaffney had the best opportunity for the Crimson in the opening period after a turnover in the offensive zone led to a breakaway. The New Jersey native tried to go five-hole with the netminder going across the crease, but he couldn't push it through.

Lowell opened the second period with a goal to take a 3-0 lead early in the middle frame. The River Hawks added another less than ten minutes later to stretch the lead to four. Ryan Healey scored first for the Crimson after converting on the power-play. Philip Tresca added his sixth assist of the season after feeding Healey who walked in from the point made a nice move and beat the goalie blocker side.

Alex Gaffney scored his fourth goal of the season thanks to a beautiful pass from Joe Miller who was in the corner when he found Gaffney for his fourth goal of the year. Matthew Morden picked up his first career collegiate point with an assist on the play.

Harvard went into the third trailing 5-2. Another early-period goal stretched the lead to 6-2 before the River Hawks added an empty net later in the third for a 7-2 lead. Ryan Healey and Cam Johnson added a pair of goals late to make it 7-4. Michael Callow, Joe Miller, and Casey Severo added the helpers on the two late goals.

Max Miller made his collegiate debut after getting time at the end of the game.
