Women’s Volleyball Drops First Ivy Contest, Falls to Princeton

PRINCETON, NJ – Harvard women's volleyball (8-5, 3-1 Ivy) suffered its first loss in Ivy League play this evening, falling to Princeton (5-9, 3-2 Ivy), 3-0.

How it Happened

The Tigers ran out to an early lead to open the match on its home court, pulling ahead 8-1.  Despite attempting to lessen the deficit throughout the frame, Princeton's initial distance from the Crimson proved to be enough to control the set.  The foe ultimately settled the opening set at 25-14.

The Crimson and the Tigers got into a back-and-forth battle in the second as Harvard fought to even the match.  Harvard began to shift the energy in its favor as it grew a four-point advantage with a 4-0 scoring run.  The Tigers were able to respond with its own run to retake the lead midway through the frame.  After taking over the lead, Princeton continued to use its momentum to hold off Harvard and extend its lead to as many as seven.  As the set came to a close, Harvard pressured with a 3-0 run, but the Tigers responded with their own scoring run to produce a 25-18 decision.

Despite the Tigers grabbing the early advantage in the third, the Crimson continued to show its fight, using a 5-1 run to grow a 13-10 advantage.  The Crimson and Princeton traded runs as the Tigers would close the deficit before Harvard would take back control consistently.  After the 10th tie of the set, the Crimson successfully took over control, capturing the next three points to force a set point.  Despite Harvard looking to force a fourth set, Princeton was able to regain the advantage and ultimately close the match with a 27-25 decision in the third.
