Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women’s Ice Hockey Falls on the Road to RPI

TROY, N.Y. – Harvard women's ice hockey was upended today in the second of its games this weekend, falling to the RPI Engineers, 3-0. The Crimson (1-2-0, 0-2-0 ECAC) put 27 shots on net but could not find the twine as the Engineers (6-3-1, 2-0-0 ECAC) grabbed the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Harvard made its way to Troy and Houston Field House to take on the Engineers in the second half of its first ECAC series of the season. First-year goaltender, Ainsley Tuffy, got the nod and made her first collegiate start in the contest.
  • The Crimson came out moving after the puck was dropped, generating a trio of chances while working towards the net. Tuffy also started strong, saving the first three shots she faced in the opening minutes of the contest.
  • A back-and-forth first period did not result in a goal until the final minutes, when RPI managed to sneak a shot past Tuffy to take a 1-0 lead. The Crimson could not answer on the counterattack as the group went into the break trailing 1-0.
  • The Engineers got the jump on the Crimson in the second period, scoring a pair of goals to take a 3-0 lead.
  • Harvard worked back quickly, looking to get back into the contest. The team outshot the Engineers, 9-4, in the next ten minutes but could not get past the Engineer keeper.
  • The Crimson penalty kill unit continued its hot start, stopping RPI on both of its chances, one of which closed out the second period of play. Harvard went into the second intermission, trailing 3-0 and looking to make a move in the third.
  • The Engineers held off a relentless Harvard offense in the opening minutes of the third period, stopping all five of its chances.
  • The Crimson fired off three more shots in the final period, but was held off the scoreboard by the Engineers as the team suffered the defeat in Troy.

HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS

  • Ainsley Tuffy made 31 saves in her first collegiate start.
  • Harvard blocked 19 shots in front of Tuffy.
  • Gwyn Lapp, Keira Ley, Annie Sun and Kate Kasica all led the team with three blocked shots each.
  • Angelica Megdanis logged a career high seven shots on goal.
  • Harvard stopped both of RPI's powerplay attempts and is now 8-for-8 on the season.
