How it Happened
- The Crimson and the Bulldogs met on the ice today to write a new chapter in the sides storied rivalry. Harvard was seeking its first win against Yale since 2022.
- Yale put the pressure on the Crimson after the puck dropped, getting three early shots on target. Starting goaltender, Davidson, cleaned up all the attempts and calm things down.
- Harvard countered with a pair of shots and a great scoring chance for Antonina Dinges. Yale was able to hold off the Crimson surge and go back on the offensive midway through the first period.
- The Crimson got its first goal of the night on the powerplay when Ellie Bayard tipped in a great cross-ice feed from Gwyn Lapp. It was the Crimson's first powerplay strike of the season and gave the group a 1-0 lead halfway through the first period.
- Yale worked hard to find an answer but had all its attempts stuffed by Davidson and the Harvard defense.
- With just under five minutes remaining in the period, Harvard worked the puck in deep and found the back of the net after a scrum in front of the goal. Gabi Davidson Adams knocked the puck in the net to give Harvard a 2-0 lead.
- Davidson was credited with 18 saves in the first period to keep Yale off the scoreboard and preserve Harvard's 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
- The Bulldogs came out looking towards the goal in the second period but blocked shots and saves from Davidson kept the team off the board in the early going.
- The Bulldogs finally broke through the Harvard defensive line to get its first goal of the night early in the second period.
- Harvard countered with some pressure of its own, creating a pair of 2-on-1 chances, both of which were turned aside by Yale.
- A defense-heavy second period resulted in just one goal as the sides went back into the locker room with the score reading 2-1 in favor of the Crimson.
- Both teams picked up a penalty early in the third period as play shifted to 4-on-4 action. After a Harvard faceoff win, Scout Oudemool picked up the puck and carried it the length of the ice, chipping in a pass to herself off the end boards before putting a shot under the pad of the Yale goalie and into the back of the net. Oudemool's first career goal gave Harvard a 3-1 lead.
- 90 seconds later, Harvard got another tally courtesy of Gwyn Lapp. After digging the puck off the boards, Ella Lucia found Lapp in the slot and the junior didn't miss her chance, beating the goalie to her glove side to boost the Crimson lead to 4-1.
- The Crimson piled on another tally – this time just 23 seconds after its previous goal – after Antonina Dinges also found the twine off a shot from the slot. Sophie Ensley dug the puck out of the corner and put the pass right on Dinges' stick to give her the chance.
- Davidson would clean up the rest of the shots she faced to preserve the lead and give Harvard a 5-1 win over its rival.
- The Crimson earned its second consecutive win on its home ice and second straight win at home over a ranked opponent.
