Harvard Squash Remembers David Ryan ‘18

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard men's and women's squash joins the squash community in remembering David Ryan '18, who passed away suddenly this Saturday.

David's accomplishments and his overall effect on the Harvard squash program will never be forgotten. While having earned two first team All-America honors during his career and an All-Ivy recognition in his first-year season, David was voted team captain in his senior year and he led the team to the Potter Cup final for a second consecutive year in 2018.

His most memorable achievement took place during the last weekend of his college career. Just days before the 2018 CSA individual nationals, he was still ranked outside the top 16, making him ineligible for the Pool Trophy. After a few players pulled out of the tournament the week of, David got a spot in the top draw as the No. 14 seed. He went on to upset every opponent he faced in the tournament, eventually beating the No. 1 seed Kush Kumar from Trinity in the final. He was the first Harvard player to win the Pool Trophy since Ali Farag's championship in 2014.

You can listen to David recount the experience during an interview he did with Harvard squash in 2020.
