Xavier Tanyi scored his first career goal, junior goalkeeper
Cullen MacNeil posted the Crimson's first goalie assist since 2021, and Harvard University men's soccer earned a 1-1 draw at Boston University on Tuesday night at Nickerson Field.
In a crosstown rivalry matchup, the Crimson (1-4-4) opened the game's scoring in the 49
th minute before the host Terriers (1-3-8) equalized in the 84
th minute.
Tanyi notched his first collegiate goal, while sophomore
Ben Kelly and MacNeil each registered his first career assist.
Harvard Highlights
- First-year Xavier Tanyi scored his first goal of the season and now has three points on the year with a goal and an assist.
- Sophomore Ben Kelly posted an assist – the first of his career.
- Junior goalkeeper Cullen MacNeil notched an assist, marking the first assist from a Harvard goalie since Gianluca Trofa registered an assist at Merrimack on Sept. 21, 2021.
- Among the Crimson's field players, senior Jan Riecke and first-year Alexander Castel each played the full 90 minutes. Riecke has played all 810 minutes on the year.
- For the match, Harvard held advantages in shots on goal (4-1) and corner kicks (4-2), while BU gained a narrow edge in shots (6-5).

How It Happened
- In the 11th minute, sophomore Dylan Tellado generated an early chance for the Crimson driving a shot on goal on a counter that required the keeper to come off his line and make a save.
- Later in the first half in the 36th minute, sophomore Andreas Savva played in a dangerous corner from the right side, forcing the Terriers to send a defensive header over the end line from inside the six-yard box.
- First-year Xavier Tanyi broke the scoring open in the 49th minute. After junior goalkeeper Cullen MacNeil played a long ball up the field, sophomore Ben Kelly headed the ball on to Tanyi who sent a one-timed shot into the left side of the goal.
- Boston University equalized in the 84th minute on a goal from Aidan Bone inside the box following passes in the attacking third from Andrew Soczynski and Aidan Holmes.
- In the 85th minute, Tellado nearly put the Crimson back in front as his shot carried just wide to the right following a through ball from sophomore Erik Dalaker.
