CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Harvard women's volleyball (10-13, 5-9 Ivy) wrapped up its season with a hard-fought loss to Princeton (14-10, 12-2 Ivy), falling 3-1 this evening.
Prior to the match, the Crimson celebrated the memorable careers of its four seniors:
Rocky Aguirre,
Corinne Furey,
Teia Piette, and
Lindsey Zhang.
How it Happened
In the opening set, Harvard fought to keep pace with Princeton. After trailing 17-11, the Crimson made a push to close the gap, but the Tigers answered with a strong 5-0 run, extending their lead to 22-13.
Peyton Hollis recorded five kills for Harvard while
Brynne Faltinsky added four more. Princeton closed out the set with a 25-16 win.
Harvard started the second set with an impressive 7-0 run, building a 9-2 lead over Princeton. The Crimson dominated for most of the frame before a pair of short Tiger runs ate into the lead. Ultimately, Harvard maintained its composure despite Princeton nearly tying the set late and closed out a 25-22 result.
Princeton looked strong in the early stages of the third set, launching a powerful 6-0 run to establish a 12-5 advantage. Harvard pushed back with its longest run of the set at 3-0, cutting it to 19-10. Faltinsky stood out with four kills during the set, but Princeton held their ground and clinched the set with a 25-13 victory.
Princeton carried its momentum into the fourth set with a 3-0 run, extending their lead to 4-1. Poised to keep the match alive, Harvard responded, pulling within one at 5-4. The Tigers recorded another surge, going on a 4-0 run to pull ahead 10-5. As the remainder of the set became a back-and-forth battle, Princeton's early lead proved enough to hold off the Crimson. Ultimately, Princeton secured the match over the Crimson with a 25-17 decision in the fourth set.
Harvard Highlights
- Brynne Faltinsky delivered another strong performance, tallying a team-high 17 kills and also adding four total blocks.
- Corinne Furey and Peyton Hollis added solid support for second time this weekend, each tallying seven kills.
- Both Ryleigh Patterson and Faltinsky were key at the net, recording four blocks apiece.
- From the service line, Teia Piette impressed with three aces, while Lindsey Zhang and Rocky Aguirre added one each.
- Zhang and Aguirre each closed their careers with the Crimson by leading in their specialties as Zhang tallied 14 digs and Aguirre totaled 35 assists.
