Men’s Basketball Battles Colorado before Falling, 88-66

BOULDER, Colo. – Four Crimson scored in double figures, and the visitors remained within two possessions with just over 11 minutes to play before Harvard Men's Basketball fell at Big 12 member Colorado, 88-66, on Sunday afternoon at the CU Events Center.
 
Playing in the final game of a four-game road swing, the Crimson (1-4) used a 14-3 run to pull within 56-50 with 11:24 to play before the host Buffaloes (4-0) held off the rally from the visitors.
 
Junior guard Chandler Piggé (11 points, four rebounds), senior guard Evan Nelson (11 points, 3-of-5 3-pointers), first-year guard Tey Barbour (10 points, four rebounds), and first-year guard Dutch Dowdell (10 points, 2-of-5 3-pointers) all scored in double figures for the Crimson. Harvard placed four scorers in double figures for the first time this season.

Harvard Highlights

  • Junior guard Chandler Piggé posted 11 points and four rebounds. He scored in double figures for the fourth straight game.
  • Senior guard Evan Nelson scored 11 points and connected on 3-of-5 3-pointers. He finished in double figures for the second time this year.
  • First-year guard Tey Barbour netted 10 points with four rebounds and two assists, while shooting 4-of-7 from the field and 2-of-5 from 3-point distance. He scored in double figures for the first time in his collegiate career.
  • First-year guard Dutch Dowdell scored 10 points and made 2-of-5 triples as he finished in double figures for the second straight game.
  • Sophomore forward Luca Ace-Nasteski added six points, a career-high four assists, and four rebounds, first-year guard Robert Hinton chipped in eight points, four boards, and two assists, and sophomore forward Thomas Batties II made a career-high four steals.
  • The Crimson tallied four double-figure scorers for the first time this season.
  • Harvard hit 6-of-13 3-pointers (46.2 percent) in the first half.
 

How It Happened

  • Harvard hit five 3-pointers inside of the first 10 minutes of the game, keeping within 18-15 of Colorado with 8:38 to go in the first half. Nelson and Dowdell each sank a pair of treys during the opening stretch.
  • After Colorado moved ahead 31-21 with 5:21 to go until the break, the Crimson responded with seven straight points to cut the margin to 31-28 at the 3:56 mark with Nelson hitting another 3-pointer during the run. The Buffaloes closed the half on a 15-6 spurt to take a 46-34 lead into the locker room.
  • Facing a 53-36 deficit with 16:43 remaining, the Crimson countered with a 14-3 run to pull within 56-50 with 11:24 left. Six different Crimson scored during the run with Barbour and sophomore guard Xavier Nesbitt each making 3-pointers.
  • Colorado then used a 21-4 run to push the margin to 77-54 with 5:42 to play and maintained a 19-point edge over the final five minutes.
