Men’s Soccer Falls at No. 21 Cornell, 3-0

ITHACA, N.Y. – Junior goalkeeper Lucian Wood made four saves, but Harvard University men's soccer fell at No. 21 Cornell University, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at Berman Field.
 
Playing in its final road game of the regular season, the Crimson (3-7-4, 2-4-0 Ivy) dropped the decision to the hosts as the nationally ranked Big Red (11-2-2, 4-2-0 Ivy) scored goals in the 19th, 24th, and 68th minutes. Cornell became the third side to clinch a spot in the four-team Ivy League Tournament.
 
Senior center back Jan Riecke played the full 90 minutes in the contest and has now played all 1,260 minutes on the season.

Harvard Highlights

  • Junior goalkeeper Lucian Wood made four saves in the match, marking his third game this season with four or more saves. All three of those efforts have come in Ivy League play.
  • Among the Crimson's field players, senior center back Jan Riecke played the full 90 minutes. He has played all 1,260 minutes on the season.
  • Junior Juho Ojanen paced the Crimson with two shots.
  • In the second half, Harvard held a 4-3 edge in shots, while both sides attempted two corners in the half.
  • For the match, both sides took four corner kicks. 

How It Happened

  • Sophomore Dylan Tellado drew a penalty kick in the game's opening minute before Cornell's Ryan Friedberg stopped his ensuing penalty attempt.
  • Cornell opened the scoring in the 19th minute as Danny Lokko converted a penalty kick at the 18:58 mark.
  • The Big Red moved ahead 2-0 in the 24th minute with Daniel Samways netting a goal off an assist from Liam May.
  • Junior Juho Ojanen threatened in the 51st minute as he drove a shot off the left post from inside the box.
  • In the 62nd minutes, senior Marko Isakovic played a dangerous free kick into the penalty area, forcing the Big Red defense to make a stop.
  • The hosts' Alex Harris scored the game's final goal, tallying a marker off an assist from Samways in the 68th minute.
  • Isakovic challenged the Big Red with another free kick in the 73rd minute, sending a shot on target that required a diving save.
  • First-year Xavier Tanyi nearly scored for Harvard in the 89th minute, blasting a shot off the crossbar from outside the box.
