Football Elects Bartrum as 151st Team Captain, Reveals End-of-Season Awards

BOSTON – Harvard Football safety Ty Bartrum has been elected the program's 151st team captain, it was announced at the team's annual banquet Monday night at the Harvard Club of Boston. Wide receiver Cooper Barkate, meanwhile, was the recipient of The Frederick Greeley Crocker Award, which is presented to the Crimson's MVP.

Bartrum will serve as team captain for the 2025 campaign and follows in the footsteps of outgoing senior running back Shane McLaughlin, who was the co-winner of The Coach Joseph Restic Award (leadership, scholarship, integrity). McLaughlin shared the honor with linebacker Eric Little, who was recognized as The Badger Award (work ethic and will) winner in honor of Ben Abercrombie. Abercrombie was paralyzed in 2018 while playing for Harvard.

Senior quarterback Charles DePrima was the winner of The Robert F. Kennedy Award, which is awarded to the player who exemplifies desire and determination. DePrima's offensive teammate, lineman Austin Gentle, meanwhile, was the co-recipient of The Joseph E. Wolf Award, along with Jacob Psyk (DL). The Wolf Award is presented yearly to the top interior lineman.

Gentle's brother, Jack (OL), was the recipient of The Henry H. Lamar Award, which recognizes a player's dedication to the program. Fellow senior classmate Dominic Young-Smith (DL) secured The William Paine LaCroix Award, which highlights a player's enthusiasm, sportsmanship and loyalty.

Lastly, Barkate collected The Crocker Award after a season in which he ranked among the best receivers nationally. Barkate finished the 2024 ranked second in the FCS in receiving yards per game, seventh in receiving yards, ninth in receiving touchdowns and 10th in receptions per game. He totaled 1,084 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns, which is the second-highest total in Harvard single-season history (Carl Morris '03 – 12 in 2001).
