HAMDEN, CT. –
Aku Koskenvuo stopped all 25 shots he faced as first-years
Lucas St. Louis and
Justin Solovey scored their first career goals to help lift the Crimson (2-1-0, 2-1-0 ECAC) to a 3-0 win over No. 15 Quinnipiac on Saturday night. Harvard picks up its first win over the Bobcats in Hamden since Jan. 12, 2019.
The Crimson earned five of a possible six points after an overtime win over Princeton on Friday and a regulation win over the nationally ranked Bobcats this evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In a very exciting first period, both teams had multiple chances to score the first goal of the game.
Aku Koskenvuo and the Crimson penalty kill was sharp in the early goings and helped create some momentum for Harvard moving forward.
Eventually earning a power-play late in the first period,
Ben MacDonald scored his second goal of the year after
Joe Miller threw a puck on net from the blue line that eventually found its way to MacDonald who tapped it into the open net.
The Crimson penalty kill remained strong in the second period after having to kill off back-to-back Crimson penalties leading to yet another man advantage of their own. In a beautiful play started by
Ryan Healey, the sophomore faked a slapshot from the top of the circle and passed it to
Mick Thompson who quickly found Lucas St.Louis who made no mistake on the one-timer.
Leading 2-0 at the halfway point of the final period, Koskenvuo made his best stop of the night on a 2-on-0 chance for the Bobcats. Going post-to-post, the junior made a stellar stop to help protect the Crimson lead down the stretch.
To cap off the road trip
Justin Solovey scored his first career goal with the net empty to give the Crimson a huge conference win.
