CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The 2024 Harvard women's soccer season was full of challenges. Coming into the year as the defending Ivy League Tournament Champion, the Crimson faced a challenging slate of opponents in a season that featured 11 road contests in 16 games played. Through all the ups and downs, the team stayed motivated, displaying a level of resilience that was unmatched across the league. With its backs against the wall down the stretch of the regular season, Harvard rattled off two consecutive winning results against Penn (Oct. 26) and Yale (Nov. 2) to clinch a spot in the Ivy League Tournament, accomplishing what few thought was possible late in the season.
The Crimson posted a 7-4-5 record during 2024 that featured the best result in program history after a 2-2 draw at No. 10 Santa Clara on Sep. 22. Led by a stacked senior class, Harvard posted several other impressive results including a 4-2 win over the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee - that featured a SportsCenter Top 10 highlight from
Jade Rose - and a pair of wins over regional rivals Boston University and Northeastern.
Jade Rose's selection to the CSC Academic All-America First Team highlights a number of impressive individual honors for the Crimson.
Rose completed her Crimson career by becoming just the eighth player in program history to earn four First Team All-Ivy League honors. Rose played in 11 games for the Crimson this season, notching six points with four assists and one goal. Her solo tally on the season came against Milwaukee (Sep. 12) and was one of the best of the year for HWS, earning the top spot on SportsCenter's Top Plays of the day.
A 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist,
Josefine Hasbo earned her second First Team All-Ivy nomination – and fourth All-Ivy honor overall - after another standout season with Harvard. The Denmark native notched 16 points on the year with seven goals and two assists, finishing her Harvard career with 65 points, the ninth-most in program history and 25 career goals, also the ninth-most in HWS history.
One of the best storylines for the Crimson this season was the return of senior forward,
Áslaug Gunnlaugsdóttir, who scored a team-best eight goals on her way to her first All-Ivy First Team selection. The Iceland native also led the team with 20 points on the season, a career best for the senior.
Gunnlaugsdóttir was incredible down the stretch for her team, scoring a goal in the final five games of the season to post the first five-game goal scoring streak by an HWS athlete in over 15 years.
Rhiannon Stewart was honored with a spot on the All-Ivy Second Team after anchoring the Crimson defense throughout the entire 2024 season. The junior goalkeeper played every minute of every game, posting a 1.13 GAA and a .811 save percentage on the year. The England native also posted six shutouts on the year, the third-most in HWS history. Most notably, Stewart secured four consecutive shutouts to begin the season to help Harvard shut out opponents for 441 consecutive minutes. The stretch was the second longest run to begin a season in program history.
Audrey Francois earned her first career All-Ivy honor this season, landing on the All-Ivy Honorable Mention list after playing in all 16 games and scoring two goals to go along with one assist. Her contributions to the Harvard offensive attack did not go unnoticed after a solid season up front for the Crimson.
August Hunter was honored on the Academic All-Ivy team after posting excelling in the classroom and on the pitch. Hunter was a standout on the Crimson backline, playing every minute in every game, logging 1,440 minutes on the pitch this season. Hunter was the only field player in the league to play every minute of every match this season.
So many more contributed to another great season for Harvard women's soccer that helped lay the foundation for the future success of the team and the program.
