CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –
Marek Hejduk and
Cam Johnson scored in the third period, but the Crimson fell to No. 20 Clarkson 4-3 on Friday night at Bright-Landry.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In a back-and-forth period, nothing amounted in the first twenty minutes of play. An even game saw the Crimson trailing in shots 10-9. The Crimson PK unit killed one penalty in the first.
Casey Severo started the second period with a deflection in front for his fourth goal in his last two games. A
Joe Miller shot from a tough angle was deflected by Severo to give the Crimson a 1-0 lead.
Clarkson answered right after the Severo tally to tie the game. Shortly after, the Golden Knights added another in tight to take a 2-1 lead. Late in the third Clarkson, scored again on a wide open net on the back post to take a 3-1 lead heading into the break.
The play of the period came from
Ben Charette on the penalty kill who went post to post on another look right on top of the crease.
Down by two with 10:00 minutes left in the third,
Marek Hejduk forced a turnover after a big hit in the neutral zone to start the Crimson attack. Carried in by
Cam Johnson, the sophomore found
Matthew Morden on the half wall who pushed it up to
Jack Bar on the point. Bar fired an indirect shot off the boards where Hejduk tapped it in backdoor to cut the Golden Knights' lead to one.
Harvard had a power-play opportunity with under 5:00 to play but couldn't find the back of the net despite a point blank look from
Ben MacDonald in the slot.
Clarkson added an empty netter with under a minute to play to make it 4-2.
Cam Johnson scored to bring the Crimson back within one with eight seconds left in the game.
