CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –
Ben Charette made 31 stops as the Crimson skated to a shootout win over St. Lawrence in the last game before the holiday break.
Cam Johnson scored the lone goal in the shootout while the rookie netminder remained hot.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first period saw nothing between the Crimson and Saints as much of the play was played in the neutral zone. Both teams put shots on net but nothing posed to be too dangerous for either netminder.
Ben Charette stopped all 10 shots he faced in the opening period.
Both the Saints and Crimson exchanged power-plays in the first five minutes of the second period.
Ben MacDonald had the best look on an unsuccessful man advantage to open the period.
Mick Thompson was called for a hook right after the Crimson power-play, which led to another successful kill for the PK unit. Harvard is up to 81% on the penalty kill this season.
Casey Severo nearly opened the scoring after getting yet another deflection that got behind the Saints netminder and sat on the line.
Joe Miller had a chance to bury it from a tough angle but couldn't wrap around the net.
Zakary Karpa went to the box for boarding late in the period which led to yet another successful Crimson kill. Harvard killed off three penalties in the second period.
Ben Charette began to take over in the third period to keep the game scoreless. While only making five saves in the final twenty minutes, the first-year netminder went post to post multiple times to keep the Crimson from a third period deficit.
The lone Crimson chance in the third period was very similar to its best chance in the second.
Ian Moore put a puck on net that stood on the line but didn't have enough to give the Crimson the lead.
Charette made another series of stellar stops in overtime to push the game to a shootout where he stopped all three shots he faced while
Cam Johnson scored to give the Crimson two points heading into the break.
