CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Alex Gaffney netted the game-winner with time expiring in the third period to give the Crimson a regulation win and a crucial three points in the ECAC standings.
Derek Mullahy was stellar between the pipes as goals from
Ryan Healey and
Alex Gaffney helped lift the Crimson to a win on Friday night. Harvard is back in action on Saturday against Clarkson.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Crimson had the first power-play opportunity of the game halfway through the first period but Mullahy made a big stop on the man advantage to keep the game scoreless. After a Saint got behind the Crimson defense, Mullahy made a big toe stop to send the puck just wide.
In the offensive zone,
Ryan Healey had the best look for the Crimson after wiring a puck from the point that Ben Kraws found at the last second through a good screen in front.
Mullahy stopped all 12 attempts from the Saints in the opening period.
The Crimson started to generate some great scoring opportunities halfway through the period after both Ryan Drkuelc and
Michael Callow had partial breaks. Trying to stretch across and slide it past Kraws on both looks the Crimson was unable to find the back of the net.
Ryan Healey scored the game's first goal after rushing up from the d-zone and throwing a puck on net that hit a couple of bodies and got past Kraws. His first goal since January 19
th, Healey netted his ninth of the season on the play.
Just under a minute later the Saints converted on a rebound to tie the game at one heading into the second intermission.
Ryan Healey was called for a slash to start the third period, but the Crimson was able to kill it off. Perfect in two attempts this evening, the PK unit is 12/14 dating back to January 26
th.
Alex Gaffney was the hero again after getting a piece of an
Ian Moore shot from the point to give the Crimson the lead with under thirty seconds to go. Gaffney now has three points in the last two games after scoring a third-period goal last week against Dartmouth as well.
GAME NOTES
