Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's Ice Hockey Drops Contest at No. 7 St. Lawrence

CANTON, N.Y. – Harvard women's hockey started strong in the team's penultimate regular season game of the season, scoring the first two goals in its matchup with the St. Lawrence Saints at Appleton Arena. The Crimson (5-21-2, 3-17-1 ECACH) could not hang on to the lead as the No. 7 Saints scored four unanswered goals to skate away with the 4-2 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Harvard made the long trip up to St. Lawrence looking for a season sweep against the Saints, who they bested in overtime earlier this season (Dec. 1).
  • St. Lawrence came out of the gates playing well, controlling the puck and sustaining good zone pressure in the Crimson's end. Harvard's defense was up for the task, holding off the attack behind five saves from Emily Davidson in the opening six minutes of play.
  • The Crimson scored the first goal of the contest after Jenna MacDonald potted her first goal of the season off an offensive zone faceoff draw win by Eva Dorr.
  • Harvard continued to get looks on net in the next sequence. The Crimson would get a powerplay chance midway through the period after a St. Lawrence holding call at 10:01 in the period.
  • Maria Pape converted on the powerplay for Harvard, throwing a shot into the back of the net from the right circle to give the team a 2-0 lead.
  • Davidson made three more saves and the Crimson blocked another six shots in the back half of the first period to keep the sheet clean after one period.
  • The Saints got one goal back in second period to shrink the Crimson lead five minutes into the period.
  • Harvard would head to the penalty kill three times in the second period, successfully killing off the first before St. Lawrence tied the game with a goal in the final seconds of the second.
  • The Saints took their first lead of the night late in the third period, making the score 3-2 after 40 minutes.
  • St. Lawrence would tack on another goal halfway through the third period to take a 4-2 lead.
  • The Crimson could not find the net in the closign sequences of the action as the Saints would go on to seal the 4-2 win.

HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jenna MacDonald netted her first goal of the season and the second of her career to get Harvard on the board first in the opening period.
  • Maria Pape scored her third goal of the season on the Crimson powerplay. All three of her goals this season have come on the skater advantage.
  • Eva Dorr and Mia Biotti recorded the assists on the goals, respectively.
  • The Crimson blocked 19 shots a team and now have 109 in its last seven contests.
  • Mia Biotti blocked a game-high four shots.
