JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – At the second day of the JU-UNF Classic, Harvard earned a win against Manhattan and fell short against North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla.
In a rematch against the Jaspers, Harvard's offense manufactured six runs on seven hits. Starting in the infield, sophomore
Maya Douglas recorded a team-high two hits as senior
Madi Mays hit a bases-clearing triple with the bases loaded in the third inning to secure the Crimson victory.
The second game saw Harvard lose its first game of the 2024 season, dropping a 3-1 contest against North Florida.
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE:
Manhattan (0-2) brought home the first run of the game, as a Harvard (3-1) fielding error allowed a runner to score, 1-0.
In the second inning, the Crimson evened the score. First-Year catcher
Alexa Wohr slashed a leadoff single to left field. Fellow first-year
Megan Davies pinch ran for Wohr, stealing second base to set up a scoring opportunity. After Douglas worked a walk, a ground out from
Finley Payne moved Davies and Douglas to second and third. Senior
Allison O'Heany brought home Davies with sacrifice fly to tie the game, 1-1.
The Harvard offense kept rolling in the next inning, tallying five runs to put the contest out of reach. With the bases loaded, Mays crushed a triple to deep center field, scoring the game-winning runs for the Crimson, 4-1. With Mays on third, Wohr skied a ball to center field, allowing Mays to tag up, 5-1. O'Heany logged her second RBI of the day with a single down the third base line, 6-1.
First-Year
Nicolette Hunter went 6.1 innings in the circle, taking the win after keeping Manhattan scoreless while striking out two batters.
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO:
In its half of the first frame, Harvard recorded the first run of the game against North Florida. Senior
Lauren Bobowski worked a leadoff walk and then stole second base. After a wild pitch allowed Bobowski to take third and a walk from junior
Savannah Fitzpatrick, Wohr hit a single to score Bobowksi, 1-0.
After a scoreless second inning, North Florida (8-5) evened the score in the third, 1-1. The Ospreys tallied the game-winning runs in the fifth inning on back-to-back at bats, 3-1.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS:
- In the second win of her Harvard career, Hunter tossed 6.1 scoreless innings with two strikeouts against Manhattan.
- Across Wohr's first 10 at-bats this season, she has a team-high five hits and leads the Crimson with four RBIs.
- In just four games, Harvard student-athletes have produced 13 walks.Â

Harvard wraps up its time in Jacksonville with a contest against Big Ten foe Iowa. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the UNF Softball Complex.
