RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Harvard softball faced off against UC San Diego in its final contest of the Lance Up Invite, losing 4-1 in the rematch against the Tritons.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
UC San Diego (7-17) got the scoring started in the bottom of the first, as a leadoff walk set the table for a go-ahead RBI-single, 1-0.
In the top of the second, Harvard (8-6) manufactured a response, leveling the score at one each. On a 2-2 count, first-year catcher
Alexa Wohr drove a single to right field. Junior infielder
Maya Douglas kept the momentum going in the next at bat, ripping a double to deep left field, putting runners on second and third. After taking two pitches, junior outfielder
Savannah Fitzpatrick hit a sacrifice fly, tying the game, 1-1.
The Tritons scored three runs in the bottom of the second, regaining the lead. In three at-bats, UC San Diego recorded three one-run RBI-singles, scoring the eventual game winning runs, 4-1.
Harvard kept the Tritons off the scoreboard for the rest of the contest, but couldn't produce the tying runs, as the Crimson scored one run on eight hits.
