Women’s Tennis Improves to 12-2; Downs Long Beach State, 4-1

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Harvard women's tennis improves to an eight-match win streak with a 4-1 victory over Long Beach State.

How it Happened 

To open the match the Beach were able to best the Crimson in doubles action by grabbing victories at the No. 1 and 2 positions.
 
Moving into singles play, Charlotte Owensby allowed the Crimson to tie the score with a dominant victory at the No. 4 spot. Facing Doga Akyurek, Owensby dropped the least number of games of any Crimson player by winning in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0. 
 
Sany Gawande was able to complete a 2-0 win in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, in her first appearance at the No. 6 spot to move the Crimson into the lead.
 
Holly Fischer was able to bring the Crimson within one point of clinching after winning by default.
 
Finally, in a back-and-forth contest, Maxi Duncan defeated Long Beach State's Peppi Ramstedt. Duncan was resilient, taking the first set with ease before closing out the match in the third with a 6-3 decision.

  • Picking up her first win of the weekend, Natalie Block remains undefeated in the No. 6 position. 
  • Harvard now leads the all-time series with Long Beach State, 6-3.
