STANFORD, Calif. – Harvard men's golf continued its Spring slate with a dual match against Stanford this afternoon. The Crimson put up a fight against the National power, but eventually fell 5.5-2.5 to the Cardinal. Jonathan Hartono claimed the sole victory for the Crimson in the match while Diego Saavedra Davila,
Jeffrey Fang and
Brian Ma all tied in their pairings to secure the remaining 1.5 points for Harvard.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Bryan Fang was first to tee off for the Crimson at the Stanford Golf Course on Friday, going up against the Cardinal's Jake Beber-Frankel. Fang took a quick lead on the first hole, going one up thru one. Fang would take two more leads on the front nine before Frankel went on a run to take holes seven, eight and nine to build a two-hole lead going into the turn. Fang battled back by winning the hole on the 10
th, but eventually fell 4 & 2 after another two-hole run by Frankel.
Darren Choi and his opponent, Anton Ouyang, started off their match with four consecutive ties. Choi took the first lead of the match on the sixth before Ouyang leveled the score again on the ninth hole. On the back nine, Choi took the tenth hole and an early lead before Ouyang won the next two holes to go one up. Ouyang grabbed another hole on 16 to go up two and win the match 2 & 1.
Adam Xiao and his opponent, Dean Greyserman, went back-and-forth for all-18 holes of their match before Xiao eventually fell on the final hole. Xiao began the match by climbing out of a two-hole deficit with a birdie and par win on holes four and six, respectively. Greyserman grabbed the lead back with a win on hole eight but it did not last long as Xiao rattled off back-to-back birdies to take the lead on the 11
th. Xiao maintained the lead until the 17
th hole, where Greyersman won back-to-back holes to take the lead and the win. Xiao shot a 74 – which was one stroke better than his opponents – but fell in the match.
Jonathan Hartono claimed the sole victory of the afternoon for the Crimson in his match against Ethan Gao. After tying the first four holes, Hartono won back-to-back holes to go 2up on the front nine. Hartono would briefly go three-up with after Gao carded a bogey on the 12
th hole. Gao battled back to take four of the next five holes, going one-up in the match. Hartono countered with back-to-back wins to get the victory on the 18
th hole.
Diego Saavedra Davila earned .5 points by tying his opponent, Kush Arora. Davila fell into an early one-point hole before climbing out of it by taking two of the next three holes. Davila briefly held a one-up lead before Arora battled back with a win on the eight hole to level the match going into the turn. Arora took a two-hole lead on the 14
th before Saavedra-Davila rattled off back-to-back hole wins to tie the match on the 18
th hole.
Kevin Sze started off hot in his match against Sean Karl Dobson, taking a three-hole lead thru the first five holes. Sze birdied the first two holes to help build the lead. Dobson battled back to go into the turn down just one after taking the seventh and eighth holes. Dobson took three of the first six holes on the back nine to take a two-hole lead on the 16
th hole. Sze attempted to rally back, winning the 17
th hole to go down just one. Sze tied Dobson on the final hole to end his comeback bid. Stanford took a 4.5-1.5 lead to seal the win after the sixth pairing came in.
Jeff Fang took on Karl Vilips in a back-and-forth match that ended in a tie and .5 points for each team. Vilips went one-up twice on the front nine, but Fang countered to level the score in both instances. Vilips birdied the eight hole to take a one-up lead going into the turn. After Vilips went two-up on the tenth hole, Fang took four of the final eight holes to tie the match and get another .5 points for the Crimson. Fang carded an even-par 70 on the day.
Brian Ma was the last to tee off in his match against Barclay Brown. Ma fell into an early hole, going three-down through five holes. The senior captain fought back to take the sixth hole and go into the turn down two. Ma won the 11
th and 15
th holes to tie the match going into the final three. Ma parred the tough par-three 17
th hole to briefly go up one. Brown took the 18
th hole to tie the match and split the point between both sides.

Harvard will return to action on March 29-31 when it travels to North Carolina to compete at the Cutter Creek Invitational.
