ITHACA, N.Y. – The Crimson battled back from a four-goal deficit on Friday night but came up just short after a late third-period push in the first of three from Lynah Rink in the ECAC quarterfinals. Down 3-0 heading into the second period,
Joe Miller added goals in the second and third along to help bring the Crimson back within reach.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After facing a three-goal deficit in the first, and another goal early in the second, the Crimson gained some much-needed momentum halfway through the second.
Transitioning into the offensive end,
Mason Langenbrunner sent a centering pass closer to the crease. After some work down low by
Ben MacDonald and
Philip Tresca, the Crimson put a shot on net that
Joe Miller was able to corral and beat Ian Shane for the first goal of the game for the Crimson.
Down 4-1 heading into the final period, the Crimson gained some momentum late in the second period as they began to test Ian Shane and carried that newfound energy into the final period. Harvard outshot the Big Red 12-5 in the middle frame.
Cam Johnson wired a shot from the far hash that
Casey Severo got a piece of to beat Ian Shane to cut the lead to two. Exactly what the Crimson needed, Harvard trailed by two with 15:00 left to go in the third.
Joe Miller delivered his second goal of the game to pull the Crimson within one with just over 6:00 to go in the third. Getting behind the Cornell defense, Miller muscled his way to the net and chipped it past Shane to make it a one-goal game.
With all the momentum the Crimson were unable to find the back of the net, with its best opportunity to tie coming from
Joe Miller and MacDonald within the dying minutes.
