UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – Harvard men's volleyball (11-7, 3-2 EIVA) dropped its first match of the weekend to Penn State 16-6, 5-0 EIVA), falling 3-0.
How it Happened
The Crimson were locked in a battle from the start, tying up the contest six times throughout the halfway point of the first set. With the set tied at 14-14, the Nittany Lions then used a 7-1 scoring run to pull away. Despite battling, the Crimson were not able to fully pull back, ultimately dropping the set, 25-20.
The Nittany Lions pulled out to a quick lead, going up 4-0 early and were able to maintain a large lead throughout the set. Penn State were able to hold off any of Harvard's pressures throughout the set, moving up 2-0 after taking the second, 25-15.
Penn State once again pulled out to a quick 4-1 start but the Crimson were able to rally to stay in the match, remaining within two throughout the middle of the set. The Nittany Lions used several short scoring runs to ultimately pull out of reach of the Crimson and closed out the match with a 25-18 third set. Down the stretch the Crimson made a handful of pushes but were unable to stop Penn State's attacks fully.
