Baseball Drops 20-12 Decision to Brown in Series Finale

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Chris Snopek tallied a season-high five RBIs, and sophomore Callan Fang hit his first career home run, but Harvard University baseball dropped a 20-12 decision to Brown University on Sunday afternoon at O'Donnell Field in the series finale of a three-game set.
 
Playing its first home game at O'Donnell Field, the Crimson (4-16, 2-4 Ivy) trimmed a 12-0 deficit down to one run at 13-12 through seven innings before the visiting Bears (7-14, 2-4 Ivy) held off the rally with insurance runs in the eighth and ninth frames.
 
Snopek's five-RBI effort included a bases-clearing double while Fang hit his first collegiate homer with a two-run shot in the third inning. Senior Ben Rounds went 3-for-4 with three runs and has now reached base safely in all 20 of the Crimson's games in 2024 while junior George Cooper finished 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.

  • Senior Jake Berger posted a double, an RBI, and two runs, junior William Lybrook added a hit and two runs, and sophomore Jordan Kang contributed a hit and an RBI.
  • First-year right-hander Will Burns threw 4.2 innings in relief, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts.
  • Harvard tied its season high with 12 runs, compiling double-figure runs for the second time this year.
  • The Crimson tallied 13 hits for its ninth game with double-figure hits this year and posted 10 RBIs for its second game with double-figure RBIs in 2024. 
 

How It Happened

  • The Bears opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first.
  • The visitors added a pair of unearned runs in the top of the second to move ahead 3-0.
  • Brown scored nine runs in the top of the third to make the score 12-0.
  • The Crimson countered with six runs in the bottom of the third to pull within 12-6. Cooper plated the inning's first run with an RBI single to left center before Snopek hit a bases-clearing double to right center. Fang capped the frame's scoring with a two-run home run down the right field line.
  • Harvard continued to cut into the margin with two runs in the last of the fifth, trimming the deficit to 12-8. Berger hit an RBI double to right center before Snopek plated a run with a sacrifice fly.
  • The Bears plated a run in the top of the sixth to make the difference 13-8.
  • The Crimson responded with four runs in the bottom of the seventh to cut the deficit to 13-12. Cooper scored following an error before Snopek hit a sacrifice fly. Lybrook then scored on a wild pitch prior to an RBI infield single from Kang.
  • Brown tacked on three runs in the top of the eighth to extend its lead to 16-12 and added four runs in the top of the ninth to move ahead 20-12.
