Baseball’s Matson Wins Ivy League Pitcher of the Week

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard University baseball junior right-handed pitcher Sean Matson has earned Ivy League Pitcher of the Week honors after throwing 6.1 scoreless innings last week, the Ivy League conference office announced on Monday afternoon.
 
Matson tossed 6.1 scoreless innings in his start on Saturday, helping Harvard earn a 4-3 win over The Citadel in 10 innings in game one. Matson allowed no runs on three hits and two walks with seven strikeouts, while holding the Bulldogs to a .143 opponent batting average.
 
For the season, Matson has tallied a 1.74 ERA, hurling 10.1 innings and allowing two runs – both earned – on six hits and eight walks with 12 strikeouts.
 
Next, Harvard plays a three-game series against Penn State at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina from Mar. 8-10 (USABaseball.TV) with game one on Mar. 8 at 3:00 p.m., game two on Mar. 9 at 1:00 p.m., and game three on Mar. 10 at 11:00 a.m.
