PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Liam Rotzoll of Harvard men's squash secured two wins on Friday on day one of the CSA Individual National Championships to earn a spot in the semifinal round on Saturday. His teammates,
David Costales and
Neel Joshi, both earned wins in the first round of their brackets before falling in the quarterfinals.
Rotzoll posted a 3-1 victory in the first round before dropping his quarterfinal opponent in straight games to advance into Saturday's semifinal action. Rotzoll, the bracket's eight-seed, upset the no. 1 seed in the field to advance.
Neel Joshi earned a hard-fought win in his first-round match, coming back from a 1-2 deficit to win 3-2 after posting back-to-back wins in the fourth and fifth games. In his quarterfinal match, Joshi fell 3-0 to end his run at the Championships.
David Costales raced to a 3-0 victory in his first-round match in the Pool Trophy bracket, defeating his opponent from Trinity, 11-9, 11-6, 12-10. In the quarterfinal, Costales could not get past his opponent from Penn, falling in straight games.

Rotzoll moves into the Saturday semifinal round to face off against Max Forster of Yale tomorrow at 12:30. Rotzoll and Forster have met once before, competing against one another in the Harvard-Yale regular season match. Rotzoll fell 2-3 in that contest after a grueling 90-plus minute match went to his Bulldog adversary.
