Women’s Tennis Dominates Cornell, 4-0

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.  – No. 39 Harvard women's tennis (17-2, 3-0 Ivy) dropped Cornell (7-12, 0-4 Ivy), 4-0, this afternoon in front of its home crowd to improve to 17-2 on the season.

How it Happened

Using the energy of a packed Murr Center, Harvard opened the day by cruising past the Big Red in doubles play.  Rachel Arbitman and Kavya Karra picked up a convincing, 6-2, victory at the No. 2 spot before Holly Fischer and Stephanie Yakoff sealed the doubles point with their own 6-3 win at the No. 1 position.

The Crimson kept its momentum going into singles action and Fischer and Yakoff both added their second wins of the day to pull the Crimson within a point of the overall victory.

First, Fischer dominated at the No. 1 position, downing Lauren Stein (Cornell) in straight sets while only dropping one game.  Yakoff then followed closely behind with her own straight set, 6-1, 6-2 win over Michelle Ryndin (Cornell).

While the Crimson were nearing a clinch in several different matches, Sany Gawande officially solidified the win by defeating Victoria Zhao (Cornell), 6-2, 7-5, at the No. 6 spot.
