Softball Begins Homestand with Midweek Contest Against No. 24 Boston University

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard softball looks to carry its momentum from a key weekend sweep of Columbia to a showdown against local foe No. 24 Boston University. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. and admission to Soldiers Field is free of charge. The contest will also stream live on ESPN+.

CRIMSON UPDATES:
  • Harvard is 18-13 this season, holding third place in the Ivy League standings with an 9-6 record in conference action.
  • Over the past 10 games, the Crimson is on a tear, going 8-2 over that stretch. Over its four-game winning streak, Harvard is batting .355 as a team and is outscoring its opponents 30-13.
  • In the Big Apple, Harvard earned its first sweep in Ivy League play in 2024, defeating Columbia three times over the weekend.
  • The series began on Saturday, as senior pitcher Anna Reed no-hitter highlighted the Crimson's statement 11-0 run-rule victory against the Lions. Game two of the doubleheader saw Harvard hold off a late Columbia rally to take the series, 10-7.
  • Harvard secured the sweep on Sunday with its first extra innings win of the year, outlasting the Lions, 5-4, in eight frames. Senior infielder Madi Mays drove in the game winning run as sophomore Riley Flynn tossed 2.1 scoreless and hit-less innings to secure the sweep.
  • Mays dominated at the dish and in the field in the Columbia series, batting a team-high .778 with a 1.000 fielding percentage to go along with one home run and seven RBIs.
  • First-Year infielder Sophie Sun is enjoying a remarkable season at the dish, emerging as one of the best hitting talents in the Ancient Eight in just her first collegiate campaign.
  • A native of Austin, Texas, Sun is a three-time Ivy League Rookie of the Week. She leads the Ivy League in batting average (.435), OPS (1.237) and hits (40). Sun is just one of three student-athletes in the conference to bat above .400 and is looking to become the first Crimson to bat above .400 in a season since Rhianna Rich '19 did so in 2018.
  • Against Ivy League opposition, Sun is batting .510 to go along with a 1.356 OPS.
  • As a unit, the Harvard bats are recording a .300 batting average, the highest mark in the conference and the only squad in the Ancient Eight to boast a .300 or higher team batting average.
  • In the circle, the Crimson own one of the best pitching staffs in the Ivy League, as its earned run average of 2.71 leads the Ivy League. Harvard is the only team in the conference with a team ERA below 3.00.
SCOUTING THE TERRIERS:
  • Boston University owns a 35-4 record this season, holding a perfect 9-0 record in the Patriot League. The Terriers are the No. 24 team in the latest NFCA Coaches Poll.
  • In its last series, the Terriers swept Holy Cross, shutting out the Crusaders in each game.
  • Harvard and Boson University have met 50 times on the softball diamond, as the Terriers lead the series, 29-21, and own a four-game winning streak.
