CAMBRIDGE, MASS. – Harvard men's volleyball (12-12, 3-7 EIVA) bounced back this evening in the EIVA Tournament quarterfinals, downing New Jersey Institute of Technology (11-15, 3-7 EIVA), 3-0.
How it Happened
The tone of a tight match up was set early as the two squads tied eight times through the first 20 points.
Ethan McCrary caught fire early, accumulating six kills in the first set to help the Crimson grow a slight lead at 16-14 to force a Highlanders timeout. The Crimson continued to use its momentum out of the break, maintaining its slight advantage into the late points. Following a 3-1 scoring run and a
Logan Shepherd kill Harvard was able to close set one at 25-22.
Despite the Highlanders pulling out to an early 6-3 lead in set two, the Crimson brought its momentum back. Using a five-point scoring run Harvard turned the set in its favor, grabbing a 14-10 advantage. After growing its lead to as much as six Harvard was able to cruise to a 2-0 with a 25-18 second set decision.
Harvard never let its strength die out, powering out to a 17-12 lead in the third set after it was even at 10. While NJIT had a handful of attempted comebacks, the Crimson never allowed its lead to fall below three. A trio of Crimson kills in the last five points ultimately finalized the match as Harvard completed the sweep with a 25-20 final set.
Harvard Highlights
- Ethan McCrary led the way for the Crimson with 12 kills and zero attack errors for a .750 hitting percentage.
- Zach Berty added a strong nine kills while also adding an ace, a block, and four digs.
- James Bardin posted an all-around performance with seven kills and a .545 hitting percentage along with a team-leading 30 assists, and nine digs.
- Ethan Smith logged five kills, a team-leading three aces, and six digs throughout the contest.
- As a team, the Crimson registered 45 kills and a .347 hitting percentage in comparison to the Highlanders 34 kills and .289 hitting percentage.

With the victory, the Crimson advance to the EIVA Tournament semifinals and will face No. 1 seed Penn State tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. ET in University Park, PA and on BIG+.
